The ac adapter serves its need. It's compact and light. However, it doesn't have the USB port as described by Amazon. The 600ma comes in handy as I have tried a 300ma model that won't power up my infrared device trash can. The storage on the side is a nice touch to store all of the unused tips. It's too bad that it doesn't have the USB port.

I think this thing deserves some better reviews on here - some of the previous reviewers may not be meant to own electronics. To the guy who tested it with a volt meter: 9.3V is pretty damn good for a 9V adapter, I've seen 9V adapters with 15V readings. Pretty much everything has an internal voltage regulator anyway. And the fact that it can put out more than the rated current is a good thing, not a bad thing.
Bottom line, this thing works just like it's supposed to, and the USB charger is a nice touch. It's compact, I like the folding prongs. I'm surprised someone broke one off, they seem strong enough to me. My only complaint is I wish all the extra plugs clipped on to the adapter wire or something so they couldn't get separated.
A 4 star product, but it needed the rating boost to counteract a few electronically handicapped individuals.

I bought this for use with my MIDI keyboard. I plugged the adapter into a power strip. A week later, I moved the keyboard and unplugged the adapter from the power strip. Imagine my horror when the adapter came free from the power strip minus one electrical prong! That's right, it broke off and stayed stuck in the power strip. Needless to say, I took it back. (Luckily my keyboard is fine, and so am I, as the main power strip wasn't plugged into the wall.)

I tested this exact model for voltage, amperage and stability using a Fluke Digital Multitester with a 1% accuracy across the range, and utilizing a stabilized 120V input from APC. The Powerline put out 9.3V (on the 9V setting), and 2,880 mA (2.8 amps) across all voltages selected. The claimed rating for mA is 1300, so this was more than double. The output for voltage was not stable. This is why one reviewer's camera was probably ruined - not the polarity reversal.

The only other reviewer most likely bought an adapter too powerful for her camera (a 1300ma charger for ANY camera??), or she had the polarity reversed; either way, an innocent power supply is blamed for human error. Please evaluate your lack-of-common-sense factor before "reviewing" an inanimate object that gets the better of you...wow!

This compact adapter worked fine for me on a 2 week trip to China. I also have the Kensington adapter (which lacks a third prong for the two diagonal slanted prong plug configuration in China, but has a fuse). This adapter doesn't have a fuse, but it does has the third prong and worked in every hotel I stayed at in Guilin, Kunming, Dali, Lijiang, and Shangri-la. The third prong does seem to be a bit flimsy, but just be careful with this adapter and you'll be fine.

With all the 5-star reviews for this product, I had high hopes for it. Ten minutes after receiving it and trying all the various combinations of plugs, one of the movable non-conductive grounding plugs broke off. I wasn't forcing it or anything like that. It just broke when I moved it. Looking at the design, I'm not surprised. The pivot point should not have been made of plastic or molded to have a stress point. Okay, it's not an important part and it still functions fine, but it does make me wonder what else will break when I go to use it.
It does do a good job adapting every possible combination of plugs with the exception of the UK/Hong Kong plug. It fits a little awkward since it's basically putting a round peg into a square (rectangular) hole. It fits but there's a bit of wiggle room. The round European-sized pins are movable so the distance between them is variable. I'm not sure if these thin round pins will work properly in S. Korea where they use a thicker version of these pins.
For most locations, this device will work fine, but then again so do the cheaper sets of 3 or 4 separate adapter plugs that are actually more compact. And if you're not planning on visiting locations that need the other types, you can leave them at home making it even more compact. Buy this if you're a gadget freak, otherwise, there are cheaper products that work equally well.

We bought the APC Universal Plug Adapter last year when we went on a Europe tour, and it worked perfectly in Holland, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, France, and England, letting us plug our (110/220 switchable) devices into the wall outlet--especially the cell phone and digital camera battery chargers and the iPod charger. It's very compact. THe only challenge is to figure out which "Transformers"-like way to arrange the parts to get the one that fits the outlet you're looking at.
We liked this so much we bought one as a gift for a friend going to India, and he said it worked great there too, so we recommended it to my brother as he headed out with his family last month for a tour of Europe. And then we took it to China last month and it worked perfectly in Hong Kong, Taishan, and Gwonghou (Canton).

When I pack to travel I pack light. I have not seen a plug adapter that is as compact and adaptable as the APC. I have not yet encountered a plug it won't work with. I can carry TWO of these in the same space that most other adapters require for one.

Once I found a plug that fit my device, this AC adapter worked fine. The problem is that none of the six plugs shipped with the device fit my portable cd player. One of them fit in the jack in my player, but the plug was too long so it didn't seat properly and the cd player would not turn on. Fortunately I already had another universal AC adapter (with no compatible voltage setting, hence me buying another universal AC adapter) with an appropriately sized plug, so I simply took that plug and used it with this device.
So, a word of caution to those contemplating buying this device: Unless you're sure that the plugs provided with it will work with your equipment, you might want to look for this or another compatible universal AC adapter in person where you can try it out before buying it. Had I not had an appropriate plug from another source, I would have been out my purchase price plus shipping costs since the marketplace seller from which I bought this would have not refunded my original shipping cost and would have charged me a 15% restocking fee, not to mention the cost of postage involved in returning the product. (Quite honestly, given the low price of this device, I would have just kept it even if I couldn't get it to work since it wouldn't have been worth my while to return it for a net return of a dollar or two.)

This is a decent choice for people looking for a quick power solution. It certainly does it's job so the only detractions are physical. The egg shape can be a cumbersome work around in some situations, also there were no instructions to point out the small cover hiding the voltage control.
Other than that, it's an adapter.

This is one of those multiple-voltage wall warts which has a sliding switch to set the voltage to one of 7 values from 1.5 to 12 volts DC. You see these for $10-$15 in stores, but Amazon's 3rd party unit is $3 including free shipping (today 12/2/07). The shape is unusual, being roughly a sphere of diameter 2.5 inches. There are 6 different plug styles included that might include what you need. Polarity is selected by the way you attach the plug to the cable from the adapter. The box says that a load current of 300 mA is "required". Since this is an unregulated DC power supply, the actual output voltage (at each switch setting) varies with load current, so I presume at 300 mA load the official voltages are realized. At lower currents, the output voltages are higher than nominal and might cause damage. For my application, I built an external circuit with about $1 worth of parts to obtain a *regulated* voltage source at 1.5 volts to act as a battery replacement/AC adapter for an MP3 player, a Creative Muvo V100 1GB also from Amazon. This particular MP3 player allows the 1.5 volts to be supplied directly to the normal USB connector power pins, so my "AC adapter" connects to the player with a Dollar Store USB cable cut off at one end (warning: these cheap cables are fine for power, don't use them for USB 2.0 fast transfer). My goal here was to have an MP3 player run 24x7 for a special purpose without using a battery; the Muvo draws maybe 35 mA. So, the bottom line: this wall wart can serve as the basis of a simple regulated power supply putting out anywhere from 1.2 to ~12 volts as shown page 14 of the National LM317L data sheet (Google). The regulator uses this LM317L, 2 resistors (which determine the regulated output voltage) and 2 small caps. It is not easy to find "AAA battery replacement" regulated power supplies at low cost. As an aside, the Muvo is a good design, hardware and software. It's weakness is that it fails to support the fast USB 2.0 download rate, supporting only the "slow USB 2.0" download rate which is the same as USB 1.0 -- a bit of shoddy specsmanship. In my application, I download once so no matter. On the other hand, its battery life is long and current requirement low. This player was $33 with free shipping from Amazon, is now $35 without.

I purchased this product at Walmart to use with our portable dvd players. The plug does not fit snuggly and falls out easily. The part that fits into the cigarette lighter is a great fit. It's the end that attaches to the dvd player that is the problem. I'll be exchaning it for another brand.

I used this along with a retractable USB cable to charge my HTC Windows Mobile phone while traveling. The combination was very neat and compact. My only minor complaint with the product is that the fold-down power plug is a little sticky. With more electronic devices using USB for charging these days, I am hoping this will be even more useful in the future.

I bought this product back in August of 2008 and it has been very useful. I took it on vacation and I use it at work. It keeps my iPods charged and my HTC Touch too. I would highly recommend it. Check the manufacturer's site to make sure it works with your device before you buy. I did try charging my Playstation 3 Dual Shock 3 controllers on it, but they do not charge. Of course this device wasn't intended for that so I still give it all 5 stars.

OK DEFINITE BUY! It's relatively cheap, VERY useful. I actually charge my digital camera and iPod together all the time....I use it for my iPod downstairs in my bedroom (no computer in my room) so I can plug it into the speakers and let it play WHILE IT CHARGES!! That's a big plus!
I'm currently in Brazil (again) and just got done charging my camera with it. It's very lightweight, the metal prongs (plug) itself folds into the white body so it's not sticking out poking things. The piece is solid, doesn't feel like some chargers I've had (like cell chargers) that if you squeeze them or push them in too tight they'll fall apart.
I've had this product several months already and definitely am 100% happy that I bought it. No need for something more expensive: GO WITH THIS ONE!

I bought 1 of these to charge the mp3 player in our son's room. We loved it so much that we bought another one for our baby's room. We use it every other day and it charges our Sony mp3 players (33 hours and 45 hours) completely within 1.5-2 hours (that's from zero!). We love it's compact design...it doesn't stick out on the walll. Heck, it's barely noticeable! We like the fact that the plug is included, so there's no cords for kids to play with or trip over. It's inexpensive and does what it's suppoed to do!

I was tired of having to hook-up my Sony Walkman MP3 player to my laptop to charge through it's USB port and, have you seen the price of an AC adapter for any player other than an IPOD. It's criminal. Now my player charges almost twice as fast as through my laptop. I also like the fact that it uses the devices USB so any USB connection works. Not sure if it'll charge a phone though. This was one of the best purchases I've made from Amazon.com.

This thing is awesome, works perfect and if you happen to have a USB hub, you can plug that in and then power more than one item at a time. The fold down plugs makes this about the size of a package of club crackers. Great for travel, no need to take the whole lap top with you just to charge your MP3 player and if you have a notebook lamp, you can make a neat night light on the go in a hotel room, the combinations are endless.
Only CON is minor, I wish there was a power light on once you've plugged it in, but other than that, I should have gotten one of these years ago. I'll buy one more for my daughter to use with her MP3 player this Christmas.
